CycleStreet is an independent bike shop in York built around honest advice, quality bikes and reliable servicing for every type of rider. Based on Layerthorpe, just outside York City Walls, we support commuters, leisure riders, road cyclists, mountain bikers and e-bike owners across York and North Yorkshire.

Jon – Founder & Chief Cook and Bottle Washer
The Chief Cook and bottle washer is Jon. Founded the business in 2010 in a tiny shop in Heworth, 300 yards up the road and moved to the former Frog Hall pub in 2012. Mainly a mountain biker, has been known to ride ebikes occasionally too.
Habits: Taking on too much.
Likes: Nice people and VanMoof's.
Hates: Dog poo on tyres, used gearbox oil & reps that don’t make appointments!
Bribes: Jaffa Cakes.
Matt – Bike Technician
In the quiet habitat of the neighbourhood workshop, we observe Matt the bike mechanic at work. Patient and precise, he navigates among chains and hanging wheels. Each tool has its purpose, each sound a click, a hum, a satisfied whirr — signals balance restored.
Here, with hands darkened by honest labour, the mechanic ensures survival in the urban wild. A misaligned derailleur is corrected, a weary tyre renewed, and once again the bicycle is ready to roam. A subtle craft, often overlooked, yet vital.
Habits: OCD and ChatGPT (See above).
Likes: Pressing bearings and internally routed cables.
Hates: Inner tube air.
Bribes: Coffee.
Conor – Bike Technician
Firstly - Conor eminates from Newbury, so possesses strange habits and has a funny accent..
Habits: Untidy.
Likes: Coffee and making bikes from whats available.
Hates: Tidying up.
Bribes: Coffee.
Dougal – Team Member
Dougal is our resident nutter on a bike, DJ or MTB - either way he is happy..
Habits: Only eats pretzels.
Likes: Aldi Pretzels.
Hates: Proper Food.
Bribes: Aldi Pretzels.
