2022 model ranges... the lowdown on availability!
Wednesday 1 September 2021 Filed in: General
Covid, extreme demand, rocketing shipping and material costs feature very highly in the reasons behind the "topsy turvy" situation the bicycle market is facing right now.
In the UK Covid saw extreme demand on the cycle industry as a Permitted activity during lockdowns 1 & 2. when Boris said "get on your bike", boy did you!!
UK held stocks were rapidly exhausted, and because Europe's shops were closed, UK distributors raided European stocks too.. Couple this with rampaging COVID19 in the far east, factories closed from January 2020 and we had the perfect storm for empty warehouses, globally.
Whilst COVID19 is coming under control in the UK, its is far for that in many far eastern countries that make our bikes and bits. Shimano & SRAM have closed many of their factories sporadically throughout the past 2 years and when that happens, Bike manufacturers cannot produce bikes.
2022 model year bikes will ship in good numbers in late 2021, then its likely that supply will almost dry up for Q1 2022 for most brands while they await more components from the likes of Shimano etc.
Spare a thought for us dealers who, rather than choose our stock for 2022, we were told what we could have and how many... So when you settle on a specific bike and colour, don't be surprised if we cant order it until 2023 at least...
